What a simplified Zakat calculator can tell you
A calculator can help organize numbers, but it cannot determine every condition that applies to a person’s Zakat. Toolzaar’s Zakat Calculator is a simplified estimate based on the eligible values and assumptions you provide.
What the tool asks for
- A positive nisab value in the currency you are using.
- The eligible values of cash, gold, silver and business assets.
- Liabilities you have separately confirmed are deductible.
- Confirmation that the applicable lunar-year condition is met.
The tool adds the entered assets and subtracts the entered deductible liabilities. Negative net wealth is treated as zero. If the resulting amount is below the entered nisab, the estimate under this model is zero. Otherwise, after the year-condition confirmation, the estimate is 2.5% of that net amount.
An illustration, not a current valuation
Suppose eligible assets total 35,000 and deductible liabilities are 5,000. Net wealth is 30,000. With an illustrative nisab of 20,000 and the applicable year condition met, the estimate is 30,000 × 0.025 = 750.
These numbers demonstrate the calculation only. The example nisab is not a published current threshold. All monetary fields need to use the same currency.
Decisions the calculator does not make
The tool does not determine whether particular assets are eligible, whether a debt can be deducted, which valuation basis applies, or whether special treatment is needed. It does not implement school-specific methods. Its confirmation box is not a substitute for understanding the conditions that apply to your wealth.
Prepare your inputs
Use a current nisab and a valuation method from an authority you trust. Confirm which assets and liabilities belong in the calculation before entering them. If you hold values in different currencies, establish a consistent valuation basis; the manual Currency Calculator performs arithmetic with a rate you supply, but does not provide a market quote.
